One terminus for two epic long trails

We acknowledge the Minang people of the Noongar nation as the Traditional Owners of the land through which these trails pass.

Works have commenced on the relocation of the southern terminus for two of WA’s great long trails, the Bibbulmun Track walk trail and the Munda Biddi cycle trail.

No other place in the world has two iconic long-distance walking and cycling trails, let alone two that have a terminus in the same location. The City of Albany and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) see this relocation as an opportunity for local businesses and the community to offer support services for all the walkers and cyclists arriving in town or departing on their way north. 

As part of the relocation there will be new decking, bike racks and bench seats outside the new visitor centre for the convenience of new trail users. Information can be obtained in the visitor centre by trails users as well as washing amenities, transport, meals and accommodation.

Carried out by local contractors and managed by the City of Albany, with funding provided by the DBCA through the WA Recovery Plan fund and the Great Southern Development Commission’s grant, this project aims to strengthen the community links between both great trails, the City of Albany and the community by relocating the Southern Terminus in the middle of town on York St, right outside the new visitor centre. 

Work has started and is progressing well, with all stonework completed and is still expected to be finished by the end of June.
