Mid 2020 Opening for Dwellingup Trails and Visitor Centre

Western Australia’s next key trails town, is just six months out from the opening of a significant piece of infrastructure, with works steadily progressing Dwellingup’s Trails and Visitor Centre.

The town’s current information centre is being transformed through the addition of 400m2 of building, to incorporate the trails component of visitor servicing including trails retail, improved ablution facilities with additional basins, hot showers, lockers and toilets, laundromat and bike hire, purchase and repair shop.

Other enhancements include a gift shop and improvements to parking, pathways and exterior lighting.

The addition of a Hotham Valley Tourist Railway viewing platform at the Centre and associated Hotham Valley Tourist Railway rail and turntable installation works, are better positioning the town’s rail trails as a central feature of Dwellingup’s tourism offering. 

Over the next two months the building, ablution and car park construction will be completed as will installation of the rail turntable.

Landscaping and promenade works will be undertaken and building fit-out works will commence.

Expression of interest advertising for the development and operation of the bike shop, cafe, laundry and locker components of the building, will commence early in 2020.

Building extension works further align with the Dwellingup Adventure Trails project, which among other improvements includes the addition of at least 32km of mountain bike trails, additional canoe access points along the Murray River and Captain Fawcett 4WD Track upgrades.

Dwellingup is on track to become one of Western Australia’s must visit trails and adventure destinations, where locals enjoy a great quality of life and a compelling sense of connection to the place, motivates visitors return.

The Dwellingup Trails Centre Project has been made possible through funding from the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, the State Government through the Local Projects Local Jobs Fund and Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest, Alcoa, Hotham Valley Tourist Railway and Dwellingup Community Association Inc.
